I hope Payton’s ballsy decisions revolutionize NFL Coaching

February 8th, 2010 by Rogersworthe | No Comments | Filed in Super Bowl

I’ve already laid out my diatribe on how NFL coaches should go for it on 4th down anytime their team is passed their own 35 yard line and it’s 4th & 5 or less. And frankly, any time you are within 5 yards of the end zone you should go for it. Payton did towards the end of the 1st half, and the Saints didn’t pick it up. However, even by not picking it up, the results showed why a team should go for it when that close to the goalline.

If the Saints kick the field goal, in all likelihood the Colts get between the 20 and 30 yard line on the kickoff and with roughly 1:30 left and 3 timeouts, the Colts would’ve been in perfect position to at least kick a field goal themselves, if not score another touchdown. But after the Saints were stuffed on the 1 yard line, the Colts came out and actually ended up running two of their 3 downs, did not pick up the 1st, and because they were backed up so much they had to punt, which the Saints took and kicked the field goal they would’ve gotten anyways, except this time there was no time for the Colts to mount an answering drive.

Sean Payton deserves this just for trying the onside kick

The call that really was ballsy and impressive was the onside kick. It worked – barely. But even if it hadn’t worked, I love the call.

Posse Review: Super Bowl 44 – Colts vs. Saints

February 8th, 2010 by Rogersworthe | No Comments | Filed in Posse Review, Super Bowl

WHAAAA!?!?!?! This is so great. Peyton Manning, the man who could have solidified his position as the greatest Quarterback ever, and in one game he finds a way to move himself back a spot. EVERYBODY is ripping him. I couldn’t have imagined a better outcome. Let me take you through the emotional rollercoaster that was my manic thought process throughout the game:

1st Quarter: Colts 10 Saints 0. Peyton Looked awesome, and I was pissed that on 3rd and 2 the Saints went deep. Cost them a drive and it looked like this game was headed for blowout central. Anybody else dread this could finish with the Colts winning by 20+ after the 1st Quarter? I did.

He looked unstoppable in the 1st Quarter and I felt sick.

2nd Quarter: Saints 6 Colts 0. Talk about ball control!! The Saints had 26 of the 32 final plays of the 2nd half… but they couldn’t score touchdowns. When the Saints got stuffed on that 4th and goal, I was convinced, even while the got the ball back and kicked a field goal, that they were in some serious trouble. YOU GOTTA SCORE TOUCHDOWNS AGAINST THE COLTS!!! Oh man. I was convinced the Colts had this in the bag. And then…

3rd Quarter: Saints 10 Colts 7. ONSIDE KICK!!! HOLY SHIT!!!! WHAT IS GOING ON!!! ARE THE SAINTS GONNA WIN??? THIS IS AWESOME!!!! I did a complete about face and thought the Saints were going to win this game.

Pierre Thomas scored the TD that got the Saints back in the game
