VYVW: Is Vince Young the Quarterback of the Future?

November 3rd, 2009 by Rogersworthe | No Comments | Filed in Tennessee Titans

Vince Young looked really, really good yesterday. However, he only threw 18 times and Chris Johnson had a record day. So how much can we look into Vince’s play? Let’s discuss.

Vince did everything he was asked to.

Vince did everything he was asked to.

Vince played exceptionally well against the Jaguars. Except for one pass, he was really accurate and made the correct decision just about every play. On the Nate Washington TD pass alone I saw Vince do things I haven’t ever seen him do before:

  1. Read the defense as tight man coverage.
  2. Highlighted Washington as the guy to go to.
  3. Anticipated the route with the throw.
  4. Threw a fade route PERFECTLY on target.

I seriously don’t recall him doing all of that so well. I’m not saying he hasn’t made great throws or plays, but on this one it was different because it felt and looked like he knew exactly what to do and how to do it. Very impressive. So what does it mean?

It means that the discussion of whether Vince can be the Quarterback of the future is open. These next nine games have a lot of meaning and a lot riding on them. A lot more than a 1-6 team would normally have riding on their final 9 games. However, for him to be declared Quarterback of the Future I need to see consistency but also a some production in some different situations. Here are the things I personally want to see him do before I will become a full believer: (more…)

Posse Review: Titans vs. Jets Week 3

Kerry Collins has left much to be desired in late game situations. Like completing a pass.

Kerry Collins has left much to be desired in late game situations. Like completing a pass.

Another gut punch loss. The game started out to where I thought to myself, “There isn’t a chance for us to win this game.” However, the Titans proved me wrong, to my extreme happiness. Then they went ahead and lost anyways. I, after the game, declared the season dead. I don’t see much evidence to the contrary in regards to how our schedule is lining up. So lets review this game.

Permanent Problems

  • Special Teams: In two of the first three games, you can make a case that special teams cost us the game. With all the other problems the Titans have had with turnovers, worst pass defense in the league, inability to run the 2 minute offense, etc., etc., the Titans could still be 2-1 if their special teams were competent. Heck, if they were good, they might be 3-0. However, I would be willing to settle for competent and 2-1. That is ridiculous. And Jeff Fisher is ENTIRELY to blame. More on that later.
  • Lack of Offensive Identity: Another week in which the Titans spend a good part of the game looking confused on offense. Some flashes of brilliance (AGAIN), but then just complete confusion, offsides at inopportune times and sacks at inopportune times. It’s frustrating to watch, especially when I have seen evidence that this offense could be elite.
  • Pass Defense: While it played better against the Jets than the previous two games, the defense looked its best when they got pressure. Cecil dialed up some blitzes at perfect times. However, the few times there wasn’t enough pressure, Sanchez picked up some big yardage passing and confirmed that this unit will be the Achilles’ heel all year.

Posse Review: Titans vs. Texans Week 2

September 21st, 2009 by Rogersworthe | No Comments | Filed in Posse Review
Kerry fails once again late in the game

Kerry fails once again late in the game

And I thought the Steelers game hurt. The 2009 Titans, the team that can’t finish a game. Problem is, this time it wasn’t against the returning champs. We can’t pretend that there was actually a lot of good to take away from this game. We have nothing good to take away from this game, because the one good thing, Chris Johnson is really fast and the Texans are retarded, are things we knew already. So… let me try to get through this and recap this shit.

Permanent Problems

  • Nick Harper: I think the Titans secondary can recover and play better, but Nick Harper is who he is. Slow and small with no ability to cover man on man. At best we have to run bubble zones with him. That doesn’t work without a beast of a pass rush, and we have not received that. Mouton needs to develop quickly.
  • Ball Control: We haven’t helped our defense on offense by holding the ball and having long drives. Against Houston, we either went 3 and out or Chris Johnson scored a 60 yard touchdown. We only had one sustained drive (where Nate Washington got the touchdown on the fade route). This is bad. Some sort of identity and stability must be found. Frankly, as weird as this sounds, I think LenDale needs a bit more playing time, especially once we obtain a lead.
  • Dumb Penalties: 2 weeks in a row count’s as a trend when it is 1/8th of your season. We can’t keep getting penalties in big spots.
  • Turnovers: Have to stop, have to stop, have to stop.
  • Defensive Line: They are talented and at times show some great skill, but they aren’t dominant like in past years. Now, I don’t think it’s a huge problem, but the Titans have to recognize what they are at D-Line and adjust accordingly.

5 Things we know about the Titans and the Weekend Poll

September 4th, 2009 by Rogersworthe | 1 Comment | Filed in Tennessee Titans

So everybody knows that when a Columnist trots out a “5 things we know” column, that he is mailing it in. BIG TIME. So, I thought, if people who get paid, and usually paid well, for this, why can’t I mail it in as well? So here it is. After 5 preseason games we know 5 things. Here they are:

  1. Jeff Fisher called a fake punt on National TV.
  2. Vince Young can hit a fade route if you let him try it twice.
  3. Nate Washington definitely has a roster spot.
  4. A punt can hit the Cowboys Scoreboard.
  5. We have a new Defensive Coordinator.

These 5 things confirm many of the rumors heard in the offseason like the Nate Washington signing and a new Defensive Coordinator AND present startling new information, like a punt hitting the Cowboys scoreboard.

And I believe these 5 things are about all you can take away from the preseason. No more, no less. Nowhere else can you find such hard hitting analysis. I am driving to Iowa and will be there for the next 3 days, so if I haven’t committed suicide, I will see you on Tuesday. If I do commit suicide, this blog will be carried on by the 3 other writers, except every post will be about me and how great I was.

Don’t forget to vote here on the weekend poll as well:

Which team do you, as a Titans fan, hate most?

Preseason Impressions

August 31st, 2009 by Rogersworthe | 3 Comments | Filed in Tennessee Titans

So we have had 3 1/2 games of preseason football to date, with one more left at Green Bay. The game against Cleveland brought some clarification to some issues we have had in previous games. However, it’s still preseason, the Detroit Lions went 4-0 in preseason last year, so all of these need to be taken with a grain of salt. But here are my thoughts so far on our preseason play:

  • Our offense is going to be good: Even when the 1st team offense struggled in the Tampa Bay and Dallas Cowboys game, you could see it forming. Justin Gage is on a new level, and Nate Washington adds a deep threat dimension that is very real and defenses fear it. This is going to open up the middle of the field for the deepest Tight End position in the league. Also, Kenny Britt as the #3 receiver is perfect for him and he will fill the role well. I am impressed with our offense. Which we will need this year because
  • Our defense will be good, but not dominant: The Defensive line will have its moments, and Jason Jones may add A LOT of what I feel is missing (which is why these should be taken with a grain of salt), but I don’t think we will dominate on the Line like in past years. Nobody commands a double team, which gives opposing offenses some flexibility in how to use their line in pass protection. Also, the more I see our non-pro bowlers in the secondary play, the worse I feel. Teams obviously see Faggins as a HUGE liability and are going right after him (he did get cut from HOUSTON for goodness sake). Fuller is good, but not as good as I was hoping he would be. And Mouton is injured and not getting any reps after showing some promise. The good thing is Tulloch looks like he is taking a step up and Fowler is no slouch as a fill-in/back up.
  • Vince Young ain’t turning the proverbial corner, so shut the fuck up about it: He sucks. He sucks trying to run. He sucks at passing. He sucks at reading defenses. He sucks at professional football. He is Tommy Frazier. The Tennessean and commenters everywhere are saying things like “Well he looked GREAT after throwing that interception for a touchdown!!! It’s important for a Quarterback to recover after errors like that!” IT’S IMPORTANT NOT TO HAVE ERRORS LIKE THAT!!!!!!!!!! GET A BRAIN!!!! It’s year 4 (I kept thinking 3 for some reason earlier today on MCM) and we are trying to say things like “Well, he finally is going through his progressions!” Big. Fat. FAIL. Last night he cost us 10 to 14 points (the argument can be made that if he throws the ball away on the play he made the goalline fumble that Fisher gets the kicking team out there). 10 to 14 points is the game. You cannot give NFL teams 10 to 14 points and expect to win. PERIOD. Kerry Collins doesn’t do that. He doesn’t bring much to the table, but he doesn’t GIVE the other team 10 to 14 points, and that’s why he is the starter. Vince isn’t gonna turn it around. It’s year 4, and he looks like a rookie.
Look, he got cursed in '08, he isn't going to recover. He sucks. He sucks BAD. Let it go.

T-Rac’s Mailbag: Wide Receiver Edition

August 26th, 2009 by Rogersworthe | No Comments | Filed in T-Rac's Mailbag

So we got a flurry of emails about Chris Davis and Nate Washington, so I figured I would just do a mailbag on them:

So do you think it was fair that Chris Davis got cut after getting a DUI? I mean, Paul Kuharsky said he was doing really well in camp. Even compared him the Derrick Mason.

~Brandon, Franklin, TN

Well, honestly yes, I do think it was fair. If you’re a borderline player, you have to be smarter than that. Also I think Mr. Kuharsky even admitted how ridiculous his comparison was in retrospect. Chris Davis is not the first person to be cut after having a great training camp. I personally never liked him and didn’t even see much potential in him. He isn’t that fast and he has average hands. He’s a dime a dozen.

NATE WASHINGTON IS INJURED!!!!! THE HORRER!!!!

~Scared as Shit, Titan Country

I received many emails on Nate Washington. This was my favorite because of the mispelling of horror, and also Mr. Scared as Shit’s ability to sum up my first thoughts when I heard of the injury. However, they aren’t even ruling him out of the Pittsburgh game yet, so that means to me he’ll play in Week 2. It would be nice to have him for the Pittsburgh game, but such are the breaks. I don’t view Nate Washington as our key to beating Pittsburgh anyways. It will mainly be on our Offensive Line, Kerry Collins, and how our D-Line fairs without Albert Haynesworth. That’s where the game will really be won, with or without Nate Washington.

I am tired of our Wide Receivers getting injured though.

I would like to see Nate Washington in something other than Street Clothes before the Pittsburgh game, but it seems unlikely.

June 23rd, 2009 by Rogersworthe | No Comments | Filed in T-Rac's Mailbag

Hello, fans of T-Rac. Welcome to the first T-Rac’s Posse Mailbag Extravaganza. We definitely got some interesting emails to go with. Let’s get this show started:

Hi, guys (or girls, not really sure what you are). I have a question. T-Rac is the BEST!!!1!

~Todd, Maryville, TN

…..Uh…Todd…. That’s not really a question… but yes. T-Rac is the best mascot in the world, even better than “Willie” the dry-humping shark mascot of a Colombia (the country) junior soccer team. If you disagree, please check our Mascot Power Rankings. It’s all the proof you’ll need.

Moron Sound Off

May 14th, 2009 by Rogersworthe | No Comments | Filed in Moron Sound Off

So, we missed a week. Sorry, been busy. Anyways, I found a doozy. Ready?

“i don’t see why any team wouldn’t sign plax. he’s not a criminal, he was just being stupid. just because he is a professional football player doesn’t mean he can’t be human for a night. plax, britt, washington and cook at te. even vince young would be good with those weapons”

www.dictionary.com’s definition of a criminal:

crim⋅i⋅nal
[krim-uh-nl] –adjective

1. of the nature of or involving crime.
2. guilty of crime.

Well, I don’t know if our buddy has seen this, but Plaxico was charged with two felony accounts of CRIMINAL possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $100,000.

Of course, I understand his point of being human for a night. God knows how many times I’ve gone to a night club and just accidentally tucked my gun into my pants and accidentally fired the gun. In fact, I imagine probably 97% of our readers can relate to this scenario. And you 3% who can’t, just go join a monastery you self-righteous assholes. I’M ONLY HUMAN!!!! So I bring a gun to a night club every once and awhile!! Lay off!!

Oh, and one final point. Vince Young would not be good with those weapons. He wouldn’t be good with Jerry Rice and Randy Moss at WR, Antonio Gates at TE, Daryl “Moose” Johnston at FB, and Jim Brown at RB.

People, get it in your head!!! Vince Young SUCKS!!!! See you next week. Over and out.
