The Titans defensive philosophy is a rather simple concept: Get a pass rush with 4 linemen while dropping 7 into coverage and force the QB to make a quick that will lead to either an incompletion or an inconsequential completion. There is a large emphasis on “don’t give up big plays”. The logic behind it is that an offense can’t put together 12 play drives on a regular basis all game, and mistakes will be made when offenses are forced into this strategy.
Any defensive strategy is only as good as the players executing it. However, the overriding factor that is the key to every defensive strategy in the NFL is pressure. Whether it’s complex blitz packages or a simple 4 man rush, there has to be pressure on the Quarterback. The Titans got erratic pressure last year, and I imagine that will be the same this year. On top of it, the secondary has coverage issues.
So what defense can a team run when they have erratic pressure from the front four and a bad secondary? To me, the logical choice is to go with a Greg Williams style blitzing scheme.

Change it up, Cecil.
