Top 10 Titans: Tight Ends

August 19th, 2009 by Rogersworthe | Filed under Top 10 Titans.

So here we are again with another Top 10 Titans list, and we have moved to Tight Ends. This list with hopefully be more impressive than the last two, which were Top 10 WRs and Top 10 QBs. Those are rough lists. Let’s see what we got in store for our Tight Ends.

The rules stay the same, to make the list you must have played for the Tennessee TITANS, not the Tennessee Oilers, not the Houston Oilers, and not the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This means only stats from 1999-now count. That means many of Wycheck’s best seasons do not count towards his status on this list.

  • 10. Brian “The Brain” Natkin – Mr. Natkin has the honor of being the 10th best Titan TE (shorthand for “Tight End”. Make a mental note) in history. His stats? 2 receptions for 42 yards and 0 Touchdowns. His nickname? Something he called himself so people would think he had some sort of worth on this team.

Who doesn't remember the Brian "The Brain" Natkin era?

  • 9. Ben Hartsock – 18 Recs for 206 yards and 0 TDs before bolting for the big money in Atlanta. What a traitor.
  • 8. Alge Crumpler – While definitely not this low in terms of overall career, his numbers as a Tennessee Titan place him at this spot. 24 Rec 257 Yds and 1 TD doesn’t cut it for any higher. However, some of the people ahead of him on this list took several years to compile slightly better numbers.
  • 7. Jackie Harris – I remember back when the Titans first moved here when people would say “The Titans have the best Tight End depth in the league with that three-headed monster of Frank Wycheck, Jackie Harris, and Michael Roan.” You don’t remember that? Oh… you sure they never said it? Well, I remember it that way anyways. 26 Recs 297 yards and 1 TD in the 1999 season earns you #7 on this list. It also should point out how dissapointing Crumpler was last season. His stats were worse than JACKIE HARRIS’ stats were.JACKIE F*%$ING HARRIS!!!!
  • 6. Michael Roan – It was tough picking between Jackie Harris and this guy for 7 and 6 but this guy gets the edge. Why? Because I am pretty sure 1 Touchdown every 4 catches is some sort of record. 25% of his catches were for touchdowns. His 3 TDs off only 12 Rec and 105 Yds have him tied for 5th All-time for Tennessee Titan TE Career Touchdowns. Such an elite list.
  • 5. Shad Meier – 42 Rec 334 yds 3 TDs. Took him 42 catches and 334 yds to equal my man Michael “Touchdown machine” Roan in career touchdowns, but I guess those yards and catches count for something. He has to be higher than Roan.
  • 4. Ben Troupe – It sucks to put him on this list so high because if he even had come close to living up to his potential he’d easily be #1, but by his stats, he is definitely #4. 106 Rec 1056 yds and 7 TDs.
  • 3. Bo Scaife – He has impressed since day 1 of his arrival, but it looks like he only has one year left to move up a spot, and he has an ultra-talented WR/TE Superfreak pushing him for playing time. I do not see Scaife getting any higher on this list, and I don’t see him in a Titans uniform next year. Jared Cook will easily replace him. His career stats to this point are slightly underwhelming, I thought they would be higher: 170 Rec 1625 yds 7 TDs
  • 2. Erron Kinney – In his time he actually produced fairly well, 178 Rec 1750 Yds and 10 TDs. Much better numbers than I remember. Double digit TDs definitely get you to #2 on this list.
  • 1. Frank Wycheck – The standard all Tennessee Tight Ends are judged by, and the man who is still a staple on the Titans scene here in Nashville because of his radio show and color commentary duties. His numbers are smaller than one would think due to he had some amazing years as an Oiler, but his Titan production is still easily the best. 256 Rec 2460 Yds 14 TDs.  Frankie, you are the bomb.

He's attractive. Even to men. Don't deny it.
